  • Acta Horticulturae Sinica. 2002, 29(1): 5-8.
  • Abstract ( 1323 ) HTML ( 1343 ) PDF (171KB) ( 1343 )
  • Endogenous hormone regulation should be very important for apple dwarfing mechanism. Starking and its compact mutants , rootstocks in different warfing level were used to determine endogenous hormone content. The results were as follows : Compared to Red Delicious , its compact mutants had lower GA1+3 and higher CTKs. CTKs/ GA1+3 for dwarfing cultivars were 4. 78 to 6. 24 times of that for general cultivar. ABA , IAA content differed a little between compact and general apple cultivars. GA1+3, ABA and CTKs in shoot tips and leaves varied about 13 % - 20 % for normal and dwarfing rootstocks. However , IAA in M9 leaves was 53. 7 % less than that in normal rootstock during the rest period of shoot growth. Using M26 as inter rootstock , IAA in scion leaves and fine roots of basic rootstocks dropped 34. 6 % and 25. 6 %. But the plant with Starkrimson as inter rootstock did not have this effect . So GA was very important for compact varieties. It erformed directly on above ground. But Dwarfing mechanism for rootstocks maybe was closed to polar transition of IAA.

  • Eighty-nine tradit ional cultivars of Chinese chestnut were investigated in present study for genet icdiversity, cultivar identification and genet icrelationships. Fifteen isozyme loci of 9 enzymes were examined using isoelectric focusing in thin􀀁layer polyacrylamide gels. The parameters of genetic diversity and genetic distance were calculated by Biosys 1 and henogram was constructed by UPGMA clustering analysis with NTSYS software. A high genetic diversity was observed in major chestnut production provinces, such as Zhejiang, Shandong, Hubei and Jiangsu. Eighty􀀁four out of total 89 cultivars examined can be uniquely identified by 15 multi􀀁locus isozymes. The
UPGMA phenogram showed that the majority of cultivar of Shandong, Hubei, Jiangsu and Henan province was clustered together. The traditional cult ivars of Chinese chestnut were inclined to clustering of provincial groups.

  • The Effect of Ice Nucleation Active Bacteria on Cold Resistance of ApricotFlower Organs
  • Yang Jianmin;Meng Qingrui;Peng Weixiu;Li Shaohua;Sun Fuzai;and Zhao Tingchang
  • Acta Horticulturae Sinica. 2002, 29(1): 20-24.
  • Abstract ( 1420 ) HTML ( 1286 ) PDF (228KB) ( 1286 )
  • Abstract : The hardiness of apricot flower organs were investigated with two varieties , by comparing the cold resistance. The obvious difference among the apricot flower organs and varieties with or without INA bacteria
inoculation were observed. The variety Youyi had higher cold hardiness than Longwangmao. In addition , tests on the cold hardiness difference in various organs showed petal > stamen > pistal . Under stress of low temperatures ,
treatment of bacteria can greatly raise relative electric conductivity , permeability of cell membrane , brown change and content of MDA , and cut down SOD , POD activity of apricot organs. The treated flower organs showed
symptoms of serious frost at - 2 to - 3 ℃, and had supercooling points of - 2 ℃about higher than controls. The results demonstrated that INA bacteria are one major factor to incite frost damage to apricot flower organs , so during
flowering phage , frost injury may be relieved through control of INA bacteria.

  • Abstract ( 1354 ) HTML ( 1149 ) PDF (250KB) ( 1149 )
  • The microstructure and ultrastructure of leaves in cucumber with CO2 nrichment were investigated. It showed that the thickness of palisade tissue, epidermis and leaf increased simultaneously in CO2 enriched leaves, and the ratio of palisade tissue to leaf thickness went up slightly. Longer and more tight ly arranged palisade cells were observed in leaves with CO2 enrichment. Not only the number and size of chloroplast and starch grain, but also the number of grana and lamella increased as a result of CO2 enrichment. No obvious chloroplast deterioration and thylakoid deformation were found in CO2 enriched leaves. Enrichment at different CO2 concentrations for three hours in morning was not very effective, but enrichment for six hours at 1 100+100 uL.L-1 everyday produced most significant effects.

  • Abstract ( 1399 ) HTML ( 1574 ) PDF (231KB) ( 1574 )
  • Abstract: The apparent quantum yield (AQY) and photosystem Ò photochemical efficiency ( Fv/ Fm) in ginger ( Zingiber off icinale Rosc. ) leaves decreased significantly at clear midday, which indicated that obvious
photoinhibition occurred, eg. , the AQY of 80%, 60% , 40% relative soil water contents was 0. 0312, 0. 0296, 0. 0218 at 7: 00, but 0. 0261, 0. 0186, 0. 0108 at 13: 00, and the Fv/ Fm was 0. 788, 0. 762, 0. 752 at 7: 00, but 0. 728, 0. 682, 0. 601 at 13: 00, respectively. The stress condition, such as drought, high tem2 perature and strong light enhanced the photoinhibition considerably. When ginger leaves treated at 35 e, 1 200 Lmol#m- 2#s- 1 PFD, the Fv/ Fm was descended 12. 5% in an hour, but no changes at 25 e , dark in 6 hours. Decrease of photosynthesis and increased ratio of photorespiration to photosynthesis were observed in water stress condition. The de2epoxidation extent of xanthephyll cycle was accelerated in ginger leaves subjected towater stress. The data presented in this paper indicated that photorespiration and xanthophylls cycle were important
photoprotection mechanisms that effectively dissipate the excess light energy in ginger leaves.
