Owing to its diverse flower color and complex floral organs,Gerbera hybrida is an ideal species for studying floral pigmentation. Here we reviewed the research progress on the flower pigmentation regulation of G. hybrida from four different aspects including the variety and pigmentation inheritance, composition and distribution of flower pigments, structural and regulatory genes involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis, and the other regulatory factors of flower pigmentation. Our review will provide the reference for the flower pigmentation study and the molecular breeding of G. hybrida.

Key words: Gerbera, flower pigmentation, anthocyanin, pigment distribution, gene regulation
