Abstract: ‘Flame Ambition’of Caladium was derived from a cross between‘W.B. Haldeman’and ‘Pink Heart’. It was a red lance-leaved Caladium cultivar for small containers，characterized by its compact，dense and bushy appearance；vigorous growth habit；good chilling resistance.‘Flame Ambition’ had an average height of approximately 14.9 cm，plant diameter of 33.1 cm. The number of leaves per bud was 5.8. The lance-type leaves were red in color with deep red-colored venation. Foliage length was about 9.5 cm and foliage width was about 6.5 cm. Leaf petiole was red.‘Flame Ambition’differed primarily from plants of‘Thail Beauty’in the following characteristics：The plant was shorter，and the plant height was reduced by 44.4%；the number of single-bud leaves increased by 79.7%；‘Flame Ambition’plants grew in 12 cm containers for 180 days，about 40% faster than plants of‘Thail Beauty’.
