A New Late-Ripening Apple Cultivar‘Jipingmei’

Abstract: ‘Jipingmei’is a new apple cultivar selected from seedlings produced by natural pollination of the‘Changfu 2’rootstock. It exhibits an open tree form with moderate vigor,strong budding rate,and excellent branching capacity. Fruits are conical with a symmetrical shape,averaging 265.5 g in weight. The fruit surface is fully red with a bright,glossy color and a thick waxy coating. The stem cavity shows slight russeting. The flesh is pale yellow,firm,crisp,and juicy,with a peel hardness of 8.22 kg · cm-2. The flavor is sweet with a pleasant aroma,and the soluble solids content is 15.70%. Fruit development period is approximately 175 days,maturing in mid-to-late October in the Shijiazhuang region with uniform ripening. Highly resistant to anthracnose and leaf blight,yielding up to 37 500 kg · hm-2 in the 4th to 5th year after planting.
