A New Small-Fruited,Cold Resistent Apple Cultivar‘Mengping 2’

Abstract: ‘Mengping 2’is a new cold resistent,small-fruited apple cultivar developed through hybridization,with‘Longfeng’as the female parent and‘Yueyan’as the male parent. The fruit is nearly round,with a fully purplish-red skin that is smooth,free from russeting,and covered with bloom. The flesh is yellow,juicy,and characterized by a sweet-sour flavor with a rich aroma. The average single fruit weight is 26.0 g,with a longitudinal diameter of 3.5 cm and a transverse diameter of 3.7 cm. The flesh firmness(peeled)is 14.6 kg · cm-2,and the soluble solids content is 21.1%. It ripens in mid-September in Tongliao City,Inner Mongolia,with a fruit development period of approximately 140 days,classifying it as a mid-season cultivar. It exhibits strong cold resistance,enabling safe overwintering in eastern Inner Mongolia(tolerating temperatures as low as-30 ℃),and is suitable for cultivation in regions such as southeastern Heilongjiang and eastern Inner Mongolia.
