A New Cold Resistent Apple Cultivar‘Mengping 1’

Abstract: ‘Mengping 1’is a new mid-season cold-resistant apple cultivar bred from the cross between‘Longfeng’and‘Yueyan’. The fruit is of a small type,with an average individual fruit mass of 58.34 g,reaching a maximum of 76.12 g. The fruit is oblate in shape,with a fruit shape index of 0.79. The fruit surface exhibits a light yellow base color,and the flesh is yellow with a crisp texture and abundant juice. The fruit flavor is well-balanced,with a pleasant sweet-sour taste,an average soluble solids content of 16.9%,a titratable acid content of 0.256%,and a peeled flesh firmness of 10.57 kg · cm-2. This cultivar has a fruit development period of approximately 105 days,ripening in mid-August in the Inner Mongolia region. It demonstrates strong cold tolerance,being able to withstand extreme low temperatures not lower than-30 ℃,with minimal susceptibility to frost damage. The cultivar exhibits good adaptability and is suitable for cultivation in eastern Inner Mongolia,northern Liaoning,and other regions with similar ecological conditions.
