Abstract: The new poplar cultivar‘Liaoqing 5’was developed through controlled artificial pollination,using the P. × deltoides‘Liaoyu 3’as the female parent and P. pseudo-simonii as the male parent. The seedlings has straight stems and edges,with few lateral branches. The trunk of mature tree is straight and the bark is longitudinally cracked. The survival rate of cuttings is 88.5%,and the one-year-old cuttings can reach a height of 3.8 meters. The new cultivar has strong adaptability such as fast growth,cold resistance and drought resistance. It is suitable for planting in the northwest plain of Liaoning Province and areas with similar ecological conditions in the“Three-North”regions.
