Abstract: In vitro shoots of pear cultivar ‘Fertility’(Pyrus communis L.) were irradiated with gamma rays. Three different explants of shoot tip, lateral bud and young leaf from irradiated shoots were cultured separately. Shoots from 3 different explants were subcultured and selected. Morphological mutants with thicker stem, shorter internode, smaller leaf index and shorter petiole were obtained.Chromosome counting confirmed that the mutants were triploids and tetraploids. The lengths of stomatal guard cells and specific leaf mass of polyploids were significantly increased than that of diploids.
