A New Leafy Wolfberry Cultivar‘Ningqicai 4’

Abstract: ‘Ningqicai 4’is a new leaf-used wolfberry cultivar developed through cross-breeding,with‘Keqi 6082’as the female parent and‘Tianjing 3’as the male parent. It has the following characteristics:early phenological period,strong growth potential,high growth rate,good tenderness retention,rich nutritional content,and excellent resistance to powdery mildew and gall mites. Its flavonoid content is 36.12 mg · g-1,alkaloid content is 0.698 mg · g-1,total sugar content of 148.42 mg · g-1,total polysaccharide content of 3.77 mg · g-1,vitamin C content of 1.02 mg · g-1,and betaine content of 7.7 mg · g-1. It is highly suitable for the development and application of wolfberry bud tea and wolfberry sprout vegetables. In the third year after field planting,the fresh wolfberry bud yield can reach more than 30 000 kg · hm-2. It is suitable for propagation by cuttings in most regions,including Ningxia,Shanxi,Jilin,Jiangsu,Zhejiang,Anhui,Shanghai and Beijing.
