Abstract: A new cultivar of Chinese chestnut named‘Huaiqi’was selected from natural seedlings. Average weight of the nut is 9.15 g. The content of sugar，starch，protein and fat of the nut dry weigh is 13.83%，48.71%，5.08% and 0.71%，respectively. The staminate catkins on the flowering branches of the ‘Huaiqi’were aborted. The average length of staminate catkin abortion was 4.24 cm，which was 23% of the normal inflorescence length，and the ratio of female to staminate catkin was 1︰0.68. The average number of fruiting branches from fruiting branch of‘Huaiqi’is 2.51，and the average number of burs on each fruiting branches is 2.84. After four years grafting，the yield of per tree is 6.8 kg. The cultivar is suitable for growing in mountainous and barren regions of China.
