Effects of Different Concentrations of Sodium Hypochlorite on Seeds Germination and Seedlings Quality of Celery

Abstract:

Celery seeds are small and contain a large amount of germination-inhibiting substances,which brings difficulties to celery seeding propagation. The seeds of‘Liuhe Huangxinqin’and‘Saixue’were treated with different concentrations(0,5%,10%,20%,40%)of NaClO cultured in petri dish and acupoint dish. The seed germination index,seedling growth index and photosynthetic parameters were measured. In addition,the changes of chlorophyll content and related gene expression in seedlings were analyzed. The results showed that celery seeds treated with 5% NaClO had the highest germination rate,germination potential,germination index and vigor index,and the strongest seedling growth potential. And the seedling vigor index,chlorophyll content and net photosynthetic rate were also increased to some extent. Also,the relative expression levels of related genes were also higher. These results suggested that the appropriate concentration for NaClO to promote celery seeds is 5%.
