Abstract: Modified CpTI (Cowpea Trypsin Inhibitor) gene (sck) was successfully transferred into Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L. ssp. pekinensis) varieties ‘GP-11’and ‘Zhongbai 4’ mediated by Agrobacte rium tumefaciens. Kanamycin resistant plants were obtained from cotyledons with petiole. PCR and Southern blot assays confirmed that sck genewas integrated into Chinese cabbage genome DNA. The test about expression of CpTI inhibitory activity indicated that almost every transgenic plant had ability to inhibit bovine trypsin, and non transformed plants had lower activity. Insect􀀁tolerance of the transgenic plants to Pieris rapae L. were observed in
the laboratory and field which showed some transgenic plants had strong resistance to this pest.
