Abstract:

Based on the《Guidelines for the Conduct of Tests for Distinctness,Uniformity and Stability (DUS)of New Varieties of Plants:Phalaenopsis》,a study was conducted on the classification of 15 quantitative traits among 416 Phalaenopsis orchid cultivars and their genetic diversity. The results showed that all 15 traits could be divided into nine expression states, with inflorescence length, flower number, and peduncle length displaying a left-skewed distribution, while the remaining traits exhibited a generally normal distribution pattern with a central peak and declining tails. The coefficients of cultivars was high for each quantitative trait, and the index of gentic diversity was high, whereas within-variety coefficients of variation were relatively low, indicating good stability and abundant genetic diversity among the tested cultivars. Principal component analysis grouped the traits into three clusters: plant size, flower number, and flower size, with the inclusion of flower number as a potential DUS test grouping trait. Cluster analysis divided the 416 cultivars into seven major groups at a squared Euclidean distance of 5,with the majority concentrated in four groups.
