Studies on Artificial Induction and Threshold Temperatures of Apple FruitSunburn

Abstract

Abstract: A special inducing device for fruit sunburn was made to study the“threshold temperatures’’with
attached fruit．The results showed that，the device worked perfectly in calm ，clear and sunny days．Th e diference between~tual average fruit temperatures during induction and designed temperature Was less than 0．12~C in most cases and the fluctuation of temperatures during treatment Was less than ±0．5℃ ．]'his technique could meet the
requirement for field induction of fruit sunbum．Th ere ested some differences among 9 cultivars examined in resistance to thermal injury，ranging from (45．9±0．5)oC to(48．5±0．5)oC．Light Was important in inducing fruit
sunburn because at the sane“threshold temperature”， fruit got sunburned under natural light but didn’t necessarily without sunlight．
