Abstract: Changes in invertase expression and carbohydrate metabolism of tomato ( cv. Ailsa Craig) seedling were studied under hydroponic culture with different level of water stress by 5 % , 7. 5 % and 10 % PEG treatment, respectively. The results showed that both soluble acid and apoplastic invertases , and glucose, fructose and sucrose were increased with the increase of water stress. Longer and strong water stress (10 % PEG)
increased invertase activity and soluble sugar content remarkably but decreased starch level .
