Abstract: The strain GV3101 of Agrobacterium tumerf aciens harboring a plasmid carrying a human wild􀀁type tumor suppressor gene p 53 driven by the promoter of phaseolin was used to transform cv. Meiwei Cherry of tomato. Leaves of transgenic tomato plants were used for assaying the existence of foreign gene. Results of histochemical assay, PCR amplification and Southern blotting showed that the human wild􀀁type p 53 gene was integrated into the genome of transgenic tomato plants.
