A New Ornamental Cultivar Lotus‘Qiu Mudan’

Abstract: ‘Qiu Mudan’,a new cultivar of ornamental lotus,was bred from‘Jinghong’(Nelumbo nucifera)× wild American lotus(N. lutea)by artificial hybridization. Under field planting conditions, ‘Qiu Mudan’is a large-medium plant with yellow and double flower. The height of erect leaves is 110– 135 cm. Leaf size is 60–80 cm × 50–65 cm. Flower density is 12–18 per square meter,which is slightly above the leaf. The number of flower petals is 154–208 and its flower diameter could reach 23–29 cm. The green-ripening receptacle is umbrella shaped. The rhizomatous stem expands slightly. The new cultivar blooms from May to October in the Yangtze River region of China
