A New Mid-ripening Apple Cultivar‘Pingyou 2’

Abstract: ‘Pingyou 2’is a new mid-ripening apple cultivar derived from the seedling of‘Jinhong’. The fruit shape is ovoid or narrow conical. The average fruit weight is about 85 g. The fruit ground color is yellowish-green. The skin of fruit is in full red color with dark red stripes. The fruit surface is smooth with small dots. The flesh is in light yellow color,loose and crispy. The fruit has sour-sweet flavor and good eating quality. The firmness is 6.4 kg • cm-2,and the soluble solids content is 13.0%. The cultivar is resistant to ring rot disease(Botryosphaeria dothidea). The fruit development period is about 125 d. It is matured in early September in Xingcheng,Liaoning. The yield is 25 000 kg • hm-2.
