Abstract: ‘Zhongai 3’,a new pear dwarfing rootstock variety, was selected from the seedling progeny of‘Jinxiang’. The tree is dwarf and compact, with about height 54% of the vigorous‘Zaosu’pear tree. As the scion, its propagation coefficient is high. As dwarf stock,it had a good compatibility with rootstocks and cultivars, which could enhance the grafted tree dwarfing, early fruiting, good harvest and quality.‘Zhongai 3’was resistant to pear branch ring rot and rot disease, and the disease index was 15 and 27 respectively. It is suitable for using as dwarf interstock in areas of Pyrus bretschneideri Rehd.,Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai,Pyrus communis L. and part of Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim.
