A New Chestnut Cultivar‘Huaifeng’

Abstract: The new high yield and excellent quality chestnut cultivar‘Huaifeng’was selected from natural chestnut seedlings. It had good characteristics,such as high yield,excellent quality,storage tolerance and strong resistance. The shape of nut is uniform and the average nut weight is 8.9 g. There are 3 nuts in one bur. The nut skin is black brown with little pubescence. The chestnut kernel is yellow,sticky when cooking. The fresh chestnut kernel nut is fragrant-sweet,with water content 54.80%,total sugar content 6.73%,starch content 39.80%,crude fiber content 1.30%,fats content 0.90% and protein content 5.25%. It is suitable to plant in mountain area,and fruit maturity is early middle September in Beijing.
