A New Pod Pepper Hybrid‘Maohong 5’

Abstract: ‘Maohong 5’(Capsicum annuum L.)is a new pod pepper cultivar derived from the nuclear male sterile line MH499-2-1 and the male parent MS12-1-1. The peel is bright,green before ripening and red after ripening. The fruit is little finger shape,with straight strip,8.0–9.0 cm in longitudinal diameter, 0.9–1.1 cm in transverse diamete,and about 5 g in single fruit. The fruit is thick in flesh,strong in hardness,with capsaicin content of 0.6% and vitamin C content of 1 050 mg · kg-1,which can be used for both dry and fresh food. It is characterized by moderate antiviral disease,anthrax and Phytophthora blight,strong heat and drought resistance,and moderate cold resistance. It is suitable for planting in early spring and autumn in Guangdong.
