A New Mulberry Cultivar‘Sangzi 2’

Abstract: Buds of introduced fruit mulberry were irradiated by ion beam. The irradiated buds were grafted,and‘Sangzi 2’was selected from the grafing group.‘Sangzi 2’comes into leaf in early March and then blooms. Usually 3–6 fruits come out of every flower bud. The longitudinal diameter of fruit is 2–4 cm,and the fruit weight is 3–5 g. The fruit matures while it turns purple brown in early May,and lasted for 45 d,with fruit yield of 48 000 kg ? hm-2. Anthocyanin content in fruits is up to 1.97 g ? kg-1. Protein content is 2.26%. Total sugar content is 1.81%,and total acid content is 5.08 g ? kg-1. This cultivar has wide adaptability and strong resistance,and is suitable for cultivation in Anhui Province.
