A New Taro Cultivar‘Suyu 10’

Abstract: ‘Suyu 10’is a new taro cultivar,which was selected from‘Yongtai Hongyayu’in Fujian Province through systematic breeding. It is sowed from late January to mid-February,and the harvesting period of taro is around September 15th,with the growth period of 159 d. A single cormel of taro weighs is about 60 g,with 10-15 cormels per plant. The taro is oval in shape,and the taste is slightly powdery,with white flesh and pink taro sprouts. It displays strong resistance to taro blight and stem rot. The leaf burning rate above 35 ℃ decreased 17.1%,indicating strong high-temperature tolerance. The average yield of taro is 20 268 kg · hm-2. It is suitable for facilities cultivation in the Yangtze River areas of Jiangsu Province.
