A New Cultivar of Seed LotusZhiyan 1

Abstract: Zhiyan 1’,a new cultivar of seed lotusNelumbo nucifera),was bred from the offsprings ofJianxuan 17’(female parentandZhigao Wushang’(male parentby artificial hybridization. The flower is the single-petal type with white claw red petals. Flower density is 816 per square meterand flower is slightly higher than leaf. The average carpel number per receptacle is 27 and the rate of seed setting is 80%. Fresh seeds at 15 days after pollination weigh 3.2 g per seedwith a sweet and crispy tasteno residue or astringency. The yield of fresh receptacle is about 6 915 kg · hm-2. Mature leaves contain high level of alkaloids and flavonoids. It is suitable for comprehensive utilization in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
