Effects of Different Planting Time on Growth and Development of GladiolusStolon and Cormel

Abstract: Growth and development of stolon and cormel were investigated in two cultivars‘Traderhorn’and ‘Advanced Red’of Gladiolus hybridus planted at three dates in the field. Stolon come from the axillary buds on the nodes with sheath leaf which located at the basal nodes of new corm. It was formed at 4 - 6 leaf stage before spike emerging. In the middle nodes , stolons revealed more vigorous growth. Cormels appeared after planting 90 to 110 days at the tip of stolon. Number and fresh mass of stolon and cormel were increased by delaying planting time to the end of May.
