A New Sponge Gourd Cultivar‘Zhesi 202’

Abstract: ‘Zhesi 202’is a new sponge gourd cultivar,which was selected and bred by crossing the inbred lines ZS2 as female parent and ZS4 as male parent. It is an early to mid-maturing cultivar and observes a strong growth vigor. The first female flower appears at 7th to 9th node,and it has a good continuous fruiting ability. The fruit skin color is green and the fruit shape is short cylindrical. The commercial fruit is approximately 28 cm in length,4 cm in diameter,and 270 g in weight. The flesh is browning resistance,dense and aging resistance. The flesh taste is soft,glutinous and slightly sweet. The cultivar has strong tolerance to low temperature and weak light,and is resistant to anthracnose and powdery mildew,high resistant to fusarium wilt. The yield of‘Zhesi 202’is 51 421 kg · hm-2. It is suitable for protected cultivation in Zhejiang Province and regions with similar ecological conditions.
