A New Polygonatum cyrtonema Cultivar‘Wan Huangjing 4’

Abstract: ‘Wan Huangjing 4’was selected from the Polygonatum cyrtonema Hua by mass selection. The cultivar is productive,high-quality,and high-resistance with about 135-day growing cycle of field planting. The stem is erect or slightly curved,cylindrical. The average diameter and height of the plant were 1.4 cm and 117.6 cm,respectively. The leaves are long elliptical,green,grassy,which aspect ratio is approximately equal to 2.5. The rhizome is thick,ginger-shaped and yellow-brown. The average weight of five-year-old fresh rhizome is 516.0 g,and medicinal herb yield is 68 820 kg · hm-2. The content of polysaccharide is 11.07%,and the content of total saponin is 0.820 μg · g-1. It is resistant to root rot. It can be planted within the natural distribution area of the Polygonatum cyrtonema.
