A New Cultivar of Colored Potato‘Xigezi 2’

Abstract: ‘Xigezi 2’is a new fresh eating colored potato cultivar. It was developed through sexual hybridization and systematic selection,with‘Heijingang’as the female parent and the collected resource ‘S50’as the male parent. It is a medium-late-maturing variety,with a growth period of about 95 days. The plant height is around 52.1 cm,the plant type is spreading,and the number of branches is moderate. The tuber shape is long-ovoid. The tuber skin is rose-red,and the tuber flesh is pink. The tubers are uniform,without secondary growth,and the bud eyes are of medium size. The dry matter content of the tubers is 22.2%,the starch content is 16%,the protein content is 5.74%,the reducing sugar content is 0.37%,and the vitamin C content is 34.7 mg · g-1. It is resistant to PVX virus disease and moderately resistant to PVY virus disease. The average yield is 28 500 kg · hm-2. It is suitable for planting in the river-valley agricultural areas of Tibet at an altitude of 2 600–4 200 m.
