Abstract: It was reviewed from the 1960's to the beginning of 21th century that the development of genetics and breeding on Hami melon in Xinjiang，including landraces evaluation，traditional and biotechnological breeding studies in this paper. The breeding process for some selected representative cultivars of Hami melon during that period was introduced in detail. In addition，experience of genetics and breeding on Hami melon were summed-up，and the efficiency on Hami melon breeding was also discussed. Lastly，the research trends and breeding targets of Hami melon was forecasted，which is significant to the genetic improvement of Hami melon.
