A New Cyathula officinalis Cultivar‘Baoxi 2’

Abstract: ‘Baoxi 2’is a new cultivar of Cyathula officinalis Kuan. developed through systematic selection from a semi-wild population. It is characterized by high seed yield,strong germination ability,excellent reproductive traits,and enhanced cold tolerance. Plants reach 70-185 cm in height. Leaves are narrowly elliptic. Terminal inflorescences are arranged in spikes,light green in color and turning nearly white when dry. Roots are nearly cylindrical and slightly twisted. Seeds are elliptic,lenticular,reddish-brown,and glossy. The seed germination rate reaches 92.67%,with a germination vigor of 75.33%. The average dry yield is 42.29 kg · hm-2. The cyasterone content in the medicinal material is 0.070%. This cultivar is suitable for cultivation on sunny slopes in mountainous and hilly areas of the Sichuan Basin at altitudes ranging from 1 500 m to 2 500 m.
