A New Bulbous Irises Cultivar‘Zi Aili’

Abstract: Iris hollandica‘Zi Aili’is a new cultivar of iris bred through physically-induced mutagenesis. It was developed by irradiating the bulbs of the I. hollandica‘Zhanchi’with 60Co-γ rays,followed by single-plant selection and multiple generations of stable cultivation. The plant features erect flower stems,outer tepalisblue-violet,inner tepalis blue,and both bridge and pistil crestis also blue. It is cultivated in open fields with a natural flowering period from mid-March to early April. It is used as cut flowers and placed in vases with a vase life of 9-12 days. The cultivar is easy to cultivate and boasts a wide range of adaptability,making it highly suitable for both cut flower production and landscape applications.
