Abstract: The genus Hosta plants which are regarded as the most important ornamental plants have been
made great progress on sciences reach，cultivation and application of horticulture in the world，while Chinese
people have done little work on these subjects．In order to push ahead of the plaintain lilies development of
study and application in China，we have reviewed the advances of genus Hosta，studying in respects of evolu—
tion and taxonomy，cytology，horticulture，heredity in this paper． By analyzing a vast amount of data，the
direction and emphasis of the research ahead in China are briefly stated．
