Abstract: Seedlings of two spinach ( Spinacia oleracea L. ) cultivars were treated with high temperature (day 35 ℃/ night 25 ℃) . The activity of defense enzymes and the cell membrane permeability in leaves of spinach were determined. The results showed that after being treated with high temperature , the increasing range of the superoxide (SOD) , catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) activity in cultivar tolerant to high temperature was greater than that of cultivar non2tolerant to high temperature. The increasing scope of malondialdehyde (MDA) contents and the cell membrane permeability in cultivar non-tolerant to high temperature was greater than in cultivar tolerant to high temperature.
