Chimonobambusa tuberculata‘Luohan Fangzhu’—An Outstanding Edible Bamboo Shoots

Abstract: The Chimonobambusa tuberculata‘Luohan Fangzhu’was breed by natural hybridization between Qiongzhuea Hsueh and Chimonobambusa utilis. The bamboo culms are 4–6 m high,and the middle and lower segments have spinous aerial roots,which are arranged in a circle. The internode is cylindrical,or slightly quadrangular. The culm ring is very uplifted and shows a significant ridge,which looks like two discs interlinked up and down. It is easy to be brittle and broken in segments with level fracture under the influence of external forces. The bamboo shoots are green at first,then pale yellow,and finally yellow brown. Shoots can be produced twice a year,from March to the end of April,from October to early December. The yield of bamboo shoots is 7 500 kg • hm-2. The bamboo shoots are of good quality and delicious taste.
