A New Amorphophallus muelleri Cultivar‘Xingmai 4’

Abstract: ‘Xingmai 4’is a new konjac cultivar bred from Amorphophalls muelleri populations introduced from Indonesia by systematic breeding method. The surface of the bulb is yellowish brown,and the flesh is light yellow. The petiole is smooth with a green or dark green background,stripes and irregular patches. The growth period is 157 to 185 days. The average commercial taro yield is 55 800 kg • hm-2,the glucomannan content(calculated on a dry basis)is 65.9%,and the viscosity is higher than 15 000 mPa • s. The incidence of soft rot in the field was 0.78%. It is suitable to be cultivated in high-temperature and high-humidity environments at lower altitudes in Yunnan.
