Abstract: The paraffin method was used to study the process of floral-bud differentiation in Osmanthus fragrans‘Tianxiang Taige’. The results show that three different types of flower buds, normal flower bud, special flower bud,and leaflike proliferate-flower bud, were founded in O. fragrans ‘Tianxiang Taige’. The normal and special flower buds shared a common 5-stage morphological differentiation process that was about 6 months. The stages inclued involucrum differentiation, flower primordium differentiation, top flower perianth differentiation, stamen differentiation and pistil differentiation. The pistils degenerated in all three different types of flower buds. The proliferate-flower bud produced atrophied pistils, which were replaced by meristems that eventually differentiated into leaves and branches.
