A New Cultivar of Chinese Chestnut‘Jingnongza 2’

Abstract: ‘Jingnongza 2’is a new edible and ornamental Chinese chestnut cultivar developed by crossbreeding‘Hongli 2’בYanshan Zaofeng’. The tree has a moderate posture with semi-straight branches. The biennial bearing branches are strong,with each biennial bearing branch has an average of 2.1 burs. The burs are straight-crack or three-crack,and each bur contains an average of 2.2 nuts,with a seed yield of 40.25%. The nut mass 9.38 g on average,and the side nut shape is ellipse,the color is red-brown. The new cultivar ripens in mid-to-late September in Beijing area,with yield per tree 4.46 kg,and its’ annual branches are purplish red in color,with red petiole and green leaves,which is appropriate to be planted in mountains,hills and beach sand of the chestnut cultivation area in the pH 5.5–7.0.
