A New Early-Maturing Yellow-Fleshed Kiwifruit Cultivar‘Xiangnong’

Abstract: ‘Xiangnong’is a new cultivar of early-maturing tetraploid yellow-fleshed kiwifruit (Actinidin chinensis),bred from seedlings during a survey of wild resources in regions affected by Pseudomonas syringae pv. Actinidiae (PSA) and soft rot diseases. The fruit is ovate,with a obtuse beak end and straight fruit shape. The average fruit weight is 74.5 g. The flesh is yellow,tender texture,fine and aromatic taste. The contents of soluble solids,soluble sugar,titratable acid,dry matter and vitamin C in ready-to-eat fruits were 18.6%,7.2%,0.23%,24.03% and 1 384 mg · kg-1,respectively. In southwestern Hubei,the fruit matures from mid-late August to early September,with high yield of 24 750 kg · hm-2 in the full fruit stage. This cultivar is highly resistant to PSA,soft rot and high temperature stress,and has a good storage life. The climatic region similar as Hubei is suitable for cultivation.
