Abstract: From March to May 2007, the electrical impedance spectroscopy ( EIS) was analyzed on one-year-old needles of Pinus bungeana Zucc. in a 9-year provenance field trial at the Nursery in Beijing MingTombs Forestry Center with provenances of Mangshan in Beijing, Xiaoyi in Shanxi and Liangdang in Gansu.
The activities of superoxide dismutase ( SOD ) and peroxidase ( POD ) , the contents of malondialdehyde(MDA) , soluble proteins and proline, and dry weight percentage in needleswere tested with different provenances. The relations between parameters of the EIS and tested physiological parameters were analyzed. The results indicated that (1) during dehardening, EIS parameters β and specific extracellular resistance re in nonfrost-exposed needles correlated negatively with the content of proline; and there was a positive relation between the membrane time constant τmand the content of soluble protein; (2) Similar changing patterns were found between the specific intracellular resistance ri and the content of MDA; Between the τmand the percentage of dry weight, and between re , β and soluble proteins in the early stage of dehardening; (3) The frost hardiness assessed by re and τm after artificial freezing treatment correlated to the content of proline.
