A Cladistic and Phenetic Analysis of the Infrageneric Relationships of Sorbuss.l. (Maloideae, Rosaceae) Based on the Morphological Characters

Abstract: Based on 30 morphological characters, 34 species representing six subgenera from Sorbus
s.l. , and five outgroup s, Pyrus, Crataegus, Photinia, Malus and Cotoneaster, were samp led to investigate the
infrageneric relationships by means of the cladistic and phenetic analysis. The results indicate that Sorbus s.l.
was entirely not amonophyly, and outgroup swere nested in Sorbus s.l. Six subgenera in Sorbus s.l. could al
so not formed monophyly respectively, only subgenus Sorbus with p innate leaves seems constituted a cluster.
Therefore, the infrageneric relationship s should be studied by addingmore morphological characters of taxa or
by a molecular systematic app roach.
