Abstract: Chionanthus retusus‘Ningchun’is a flowering tree species. The tree crown is oval shaped and the plant type is compact. The backbone branches are upright,obliquely growing or spreading,yellow brown in color. The leaves are elliptical and thinly leathery,with serrations in the upper part of the leaf edge and smooth edges in the lower part. Umbrella shaped inflorescence with a length of 9 cm,a width of 7-8 cm, and a peduncle length of 1.1-1.3 cm. Male flowers,with a fragrant aroma,a single inflorescence of 80-110 flowers of diameter of 1.5-2.0 cm. The petals curl outward from the base,and the corolla is light green in the early stage of opening and gradually turns white. Large amount of flowers,extremely high ornamental value. Sprouts in early April,flowers begin in mid to late April,and the flowering period lasts for about 14-21 days;Leaves fall in early November,with a green period of 211-227 days. It is suitable for planting in the plain areas of Beijing.
