Abstract: A new non-heading Chinese cabbage cultivar‘Suqing 1’was developed through hybridization and seven generations of systematic pedigree selection,based on the Jiangsu landrace‘Suzhouqing’. It was derived from the cross between between the female parent‘KT Suzhouqing’and the male parent‘A93’.‘Suqing 1’was chosen for its superior quality,yield,and resistance to multiple diseases. This mid-early maturing cultivar is characterized by an upright and compact plant type with a tight rosette. The plants usually attain a mean height of about 16 cm. The leaves are dark green,nearly orbicular,with a smooth and flat surface. The petioles are thick spatulate,measuring approximately 1.5 cm.‘Suqing 1’shows good disease resistance and excellent appearance with high marketability. At harvest,the cultivar forms uniform rosettes with a rosebud-like appearance. It has a sweet flavor and becomes tender quickly when cooked. The average plant weight is about 290 g,and the yield reaches approximately 48 000 kg · hm^-2,demonstrating high yield potential,good stability,and overall excellent performance. It is suitable for open-field or protected cultivation in regions south of the Huaihe River in Jiangsu and other areas with similar ecological conditions.
