A New Hippophae rhamnoides Cultivar‘Zhongji 1’

Abstract

Abstract: ‘Zhongji 1’is a new red fruit sea buckthorn cultivar from Hippohae rhamnoides subsp. mongolica‘Wulangemu’× H. rhamnoides subsp．Sinensis‘Fengning’. Its growth properties is similar to that of H. rhamnoides subsp. sinensis. The stem height is 4.0 m，showing strong adaptability. The fruit presents yellow skin and is nearly round. Its average fruit 100 berries weight is 39.0 g，and the yield per plant during the full fruit period is above 2.5 kg. The thorns of 2-year bearing branch is few，with 0–2 thorns per 10 cm branch. The economic properties is obviously prior to H. rhamnoides subsp. sinensis. It is suitable to be planted in the arid and semi-arid region with north latitude 35°–45°of China.
